Brow Lift

Description

Endoscopic brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to enhance the forehead and brows. A majority of patients who undergo this procedure are female. Dr. Justo explains how he performs this one-hour procedure while the patient is under IV sedation.

[00:00:10.480] Endoscopic Brow Lift is purely a cosmetic or esthetic procedure, [00:00:15.000] and it's to elevate the forehead or the brows, [00:00:19.360] particularly of female patients. [00:00:22.880] It's relatively uncommon [00:00:25.360] that I perform an Endoscopic Brow Lift on a male patient, [00:00:29.360] although on rare occasion. [00:00:31.360] It's a very elegant procedure. [00:00:32.920] It's one that I enjoy performing immensely. [00:00:35.960] It's about a one-hour procedure [00:00:37.560] performed under intravenous sedation administered by our anesthetist. [00:00:43.560] Essentially, I make incisions in the hairline, [00:00:46.880] more peripheral incisions for the surgical instrumentation [00:00:50.840] to be able to enter while accessing the brow area [00:00:55.760] to create a nice natural lift to the brows. [00:01:01.640] This is completely different [00:01:02.840] than doing an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty, [00:01:05.720] which does not affect brow position at all. [00:01:08.840] So not everyone is a candidate for an Endoscopic Brow Lift, [00:01:12.240] and not everyone is a candidate for eyelid surgery. [00:01:15.400] Some are candidates for one or the other, [00:01:18.160] and then there are those patients who actually may need both combined. [00:01:24.640] Endoscopic Brow Lifts, we're using a fiber optic endoscope, [00:01:28.680] which at the end of the tip has a light source and a TV camera. [00:01:33.360] As I'm doing the procedure, it's under very high magnification [00:01:37.680] while I'm viewing it on a wide screen television monitor in the operating room. [00:01:43.040] At the end of the procedure, each of the five small incisions [00:01:47.440] are closed with small surgical staples, which we remove a week later. [00:01:52.760] The healing with an Endoscopic Brow Lift is actually relatively quick, [00:01:58.000] and most patients have very limited bruising and swelling. [00:02:03.120] It is a procedure I enjoy doing, [00:02:05.520] but certainly, I'm very selective in who would be the best candidate for it. [00:02:10.560] It's not a procedure that's covered under insurance, [00:02:15.080] but regardless, it's a procedure [00:02:16.800] that has wonderful impact on those who are great candidates.
