About BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an extremely popular injectable that has been effectively treating moderate to severe facial lines for almost 20 years. It is a purified toxin that essentially freezes the muscles that cause lines in the skin. It works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, which weakens them so they cannot contract and form facial wrinkles.

Injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic may be combined with other cosmetic skin procedures or treatments such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion for optimal rejuvenating results.

BOTOX® Treatment

BOTOX® Cosmetic is predominantly used to treat the frown lines between your brows, those pesky horizontal forehead lines, and the smile lines also known as crow's feet. These injections are administered during a simple treatment in our Phoenix-area offices in Sun City, Wickenburg, and Sun City West. Certified Aesthetic Laser Nurse Roxanne Dorty, R.N., will personalize a treatment program specific to your needs. Anesthesia is typically not required, though numbing cream or a ice pack may be applied to the treatment area prior to the injection. Roxanne uses a thin needle to inject the BOTOX® into specific facial muscles. She skillfully targets only certain wrinkle-producing muscles, so as to preserve your natural facial expressions. The number of injections will vary by patient and his or her particular needs. After he's done injecting the BOTOX®, you'll be able to return to your normal activities. There is no downtime or recovery period.

Results typically appear in the days immediately following BOTOX® treatment; we recommend waiting a week to see the full effect. During this time we caution patients not to rub or massage the area that was injected; this could cause the BOTOX® to migrate, affecting the overall results. Because the injections are strategically placed, any migration could cause the wrong facial muscles to weaken, causing an undesirable drooping.

After treatment, bruising or small red dots may appear on the skin. This is not abnormal, and should disappear in a few hours. It may be covered up with makeup, and soothed with a cold compress. If it doesn't, we encourage you to contact our medical team for instructions.

The results will last approximately three to four months, at which time the effects of the BOTOX® Cosmetic will fade, your muscles will begin to contract normally again, and wrinkles may start to appear again. You'll want to return for more BOTOX® injections to maintain your refreshed look!
