Ton of Bricks Lifted
Eyelid Surgery Leads to New Confidence, Vision
Waking up in the morning is easier on Joyce Luebke these days, now that she no longer feels she has to "lift a ton of bricks off each eye to get them open."
Luebke opted for eyelid surgery, performed by the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center's Medical Director, Emilio M. Justo, M.D.
The upper eyelid outpatient surgery was covered by her insurance, she said, and has made a dramatic difference to her lifestyle.
"My eyes used to be red and inflamed because I could never get my eyes all the way open," she said. "When I found out my insurance would cover it, I was pleasantly surprised. I know my peripheral vision was bad, but I didn't realize how bad."
She enjoyed her conversation with Dr. Justo, which did not center around cosmetics - but around her valued vision.
"I love to tell other people, who don't have it done because they are afraid of a cost, that most everyone can get it picked up by insurance these days," she adds. "And I think a lot of people think that the eyelid surgery is just for your looks - but it involves far more about your independence. I actually stopped driving at night because my peripheral vision was so bad. I feel more confident now, more independent."
