What Is Restylane®?
Restylane® is comprised of a substance called hyaluronan, also referred to as hyaluronate or hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance found in the human body, which acts as an important part of skin repair, cartilage cells, and other small but vital components of the body. This is one of the reasons why Restylane® doesn't require a test beforehand to see how a patient's body will react to the injection - the body actually requires it on a regular basis to survive.
Areas of Treatment
- Nasolabial folds (lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth; also known as "smile lines")
- Marionette lines (wrinkles from mouth to chin; also known as "frown lines")
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crow's feet (wrinkles from squinting or smiling, fanning out from the edge of the eye)
- Can be used to create more cheek volume
- Can help fill in more concave spots (e.g. around or under the eyes) that hollow due to aging

Procedure
Once you've conferred with Dr. Justo, and you've both agreed that Restylane® is the best treatment to produce the results you desire, a few injection points are chosen by Dr. Justo. The appropriate amount of Restylane® is injected underneath the skin in the targeted areas. The hyaluronic acid then attracts water, causing the underlying tissue to swell and lines and wrinkles to fade. The treated area should also see an increase in volume.
After the procedure, which lasts about an hour, results should appear quickly and last for around six months. If you wish to prolong the effects of Restylane® injections, we highly recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with Dr. Justo to readminister the treatment.
