At the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center, technology is at the center of our commitment to you. Today, we want to introduce to you a tool we are proud to use on a regular basis that enables our Medical Director, Emilio M. Justo, M.D., to provide you the most precise vision correction possible during cataract surgery.
During your surgery, an intraocular lens (IOL) is used to replace the naturally clouded lens known as a cataract. Dr. Justo can help you customize your surgery by determining the best lens for your vision correction and lifestyle.
The power, placement, and alignment of your IOL all affect your final results. That is where the Optiwave Refractive Analysis (ORA®) comes to our aid. The ORA allows Dr. Justo to fine-tune your lens placement, power and alignment for optimal surgical results.
The ORA® system uses a beam of low intensity laser light. During surgery, this beam is directed into the eye and bounces off the retina (the "screen" at the back of the eye that gathers visual information). Once the light is reflected back, sensors analyze the information to measure the eye's focusing capabilities.
ORA® technology aids in:
- Confirming and selecting the appropriate implant lens power
- Diagnosing and managing astigmatism, which can be corrected using a premium Toric IOL
- Aligning the implant during placement
Repeat measurements can be taken until the desired outcome is achieved, and the surgery can be customized to an exacting degree.
Dr. Justo routinely uses the ORA during surgery, and it is particularly helpful for a dense cataract and patients with astigmatism.
