FUN FACTS ABOUT NATIONAL SUNGLASSES DAY

National Sunglasses Day is celebrated each year on June 27. It's a day to celebrate summer's most popular - and most important - health and fashion accessory.

With summer here, it is a great time to visit Just For Eyes Optical Boutique and learn all about the new Xperio polarized lenses to eliminate glare and reflection, especially while driving.
Sunglass lenses should have the ability to absorb and block 100% of UV (UVA/UVB) rays, protecting your eyes from damaging sun rays.
You can try our interactive displays to see the difference between a tint and the clear colors of a polarized lens. Not sure if you are wearing a polarized lens? Stop by for a quick test to see if you are giving your eyes the best protection available.

Sunglasses help to protect your eyes from harmful UV light.

Dr. Emilio M. Justo and his team at the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center recommend eye protection whenever the sun comes out.  It is important that your sunglasses are truly protecting your eyes from the ultraviolet radiation (UV) and blue light, which can cause several different serious eye problems.

We are glad to check out your lenses and help you get summer ready!

Sunglasses became a fashion accessory in the 1940′s.

Way back in prehistoric and historic time, Inuit people wore flattened walrus ivory “glasses."  They would look through the narrow slits to block out harmful reflected rays from the sun.*

Sunglasses started to become more popularly widespread in the early 1900′s, especially among movie stars.

In 1929, Sam Foster introduced inexpensive mass-produced sunglasses to America.   He began selling them under the name Foster Grant from a Woolworth Store on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey.*

Discovered by Edwin H. Land in 1936, polarized sunglasses became available.*
